Safety measures help improve the working conditions for the employer and the worker. This enhances the physical efficiency of employees and protects their lives. Many incidents can arise from poor safety arrangements, as well as negligence, carefree approach, inadequate skills and improper supervision.
The Company management understands all the above, and has established a number of departments to prevent such incidents:
The Company’s Training Centre provides training on and promotes HSE regulations and standards. The Training Centre is crucial to raising employees’ knowledge about occupational safety, preventing industrial accidents, and minimising the number of injuries.
The HSE department oversees the compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, guidelines, production, sanitation and hygiene requirements for occupational safety and security in all divisions and production premises. It also ensures compliance with applicable fire safety laws, instructions, rules and regulations, and is involved in the development and implementation of look-ahead and annual plans for fire and explosion prevention, improvement of working conditions and occupational safety and employee health.
Metal wastes and equipment from all over Europe are supplied to the Company for its production process. Sometimes these wastes may include ammunition, unexploded ordnance, and other dangerous equipment. The ingress of such dangerous items into the steel furnace can cause great disasters. To prevent such occurrences, the Pyrotechnics Department has been established.
The Department staff ensures the rejection and explosion safety of explosive and potentially hazardous ammunition, objects, and substances during the receipt and processing of metal wastes. Immediate safety actions are taken whenever explosion-hazardous items are detected. The workers nearby are removed to a safe distance, the danger zone is fenced; the potentially hazardous items are accompanied to temporary storage without endangering the people in the surroundings.
The Company’s health and safety, fire protection, and environmental protection activities are governed by the Labour Code and other legislative acts, state regulations, and standards. Control is exercised over establishing the working conditions in compliance with sanitary and hygiene regulations; the employees are provided with customized clothing, footwear, personal protective equipment, free milk, and dairy products, therapeutic and prophylactic meals, and are subject to compulsory medical examination once a year.
